Competitive Irish Dance Program

A Growing Competitive Pathway

Competition is an exciting and rewarding part of Irish dance—and at Kender Academy, dancers are introduced to it with encouragement, preparation, and age-appropriate goals.

Dancers may begin by attending a local feis, where they can perform the dances they have been learning in class, receive feedback, celebrate personal progress, and cheer for their teammates. As their confidence and skills develop, dancers may choose to progress through the competitive levels, join a ceili team, or work toward regional and major championship qualification.

Our adult dancers have earned podium finishes at both the Mid-Atlantic Regional Oireachtas and the North American Irish Dance Championships in solo and ceili competitions. We are proud to continue building that same strong foundation, team culture, and competitive pathway for the next generation of Kender Academy dancers.

Big goals do not begin on a championship stage. They begin by learning the very first step.

Competition Can Begin at Any Level

A dancer does not need to be advanced to participate in their first feis. Local competitions include beginner categories designed specifically for dancers who are new to Irish dance.

At Kender Academy, we help dancers approach competition one step at a time. Their first goal may simply be learning a complete dance, performing it independently, remembering their starting foot, or gaining confidence onstage.

As dancers progress, their goals may grow into earning placements, advancing through competitive levels, joining a ceili team, or qualifying for a championship—but no dancer begins there.
What Competition Looks Like at Kender Academy

Prepared, Not Pressured
Dancers are guided toward competitions that match their age, readiness, and goals.

Progress Over Placements
Results are celebrated, but so are improved technique, increased confidence, personal bests, and the courage to try.

Teamwork Matters
Dancers support one another at feiseanna and may also experience team competition through ceili dancing.

Room to Grow
A first local feis can be the beginning of a journey that grows as far as the dancer would like to take it.

Beginner → Advanced Beginner → Novice → Prizewinner → Preliminary Championship → Open Championship
